An addiction free life

India was announced an Independent nation from the British rule on August 15, 1947. Since then we in India celebrate our Independence Day every year, remembering the fact that we are not under the British rule anymore and not controlled by anyone externally to dictate our lives. Humans basically don’t enjoy being controlled. But, if we carefully examine our every action in our day-to-day life, we can discover that we are controlled by something or the other in our life. One such controller of our life is Addiction. Addiction in short can be defined as something which controls or rules our body, actions, thoughts, motives and behaviors.

Many people in this world are addicted to some of the evil habits like smoking, drinking, pornography, masturbation etc. But if we just analyse carefully, the pleasure from these habits are not going to last forever. It may last for few minutes or few hours and right after doing that sinful act, we feel empty and restless without that habit and we crave for more pleasure. It takes us to a point where we start feeling that it is impossible to live without that pleasure and it starts affecting all areas of our life like finance, health, family and above all our inner peace. It creates an even greater emptiness and chaos in our life.

All those who are addicted are like a Robot. A Robot is a programmed device. It cannot do anything of its own though it has hands and legs. It does exactly what it is programmed to do and so is a person addicted to evil habits. It gets hold of him and ruins his entire life. He cannot refrain himself from doing that evil habit though he has hands and legs. The more he resists on his own, the more he is tempted.

Bible says in Galatians 6:8, “For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting “. The more you sow these seeds of evil habits, the more it hurts. You might hear this voice which says “It’s ok! You can live this life as well as the other one; No one knows your secrets”. But Dear ones, it is a lie of the devil. The more you say yes and give in, the harder it is to overcome that habit.

If you think you are addicted to any bad habits and struggling to get over it, you don’t have to worry about it anymore. The Good news is that Christ Jesus came into this world to set the captives free. Jesus says in John 6:37, “All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.” God is a loving father; He knows our problems and our addictions. That is why He sent His Only begotten Son Jesus to die on the cross and set us free from our addictions.

All you need to do is, humble yourself and acknowledge that you are a sinner, believe that Jesus Christ has died and paid for all your sins, and He will set you free. His Grace is abundant in all our weaknesses. Next time when you are forced by the devil to sin, cry unto the Lord and He will extend His arms to protect you. Galatians 5:1 says, “Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.” May we enjoy true freedom in our life through Christ Jesus!!!
