“I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies.” John 11:25.
Jesus is risen! Not only that, He is the resurrection and the life. In Him we will one day follow His example and rise up and see Him again! The resurrection means that there is spring after winter, joy after sadness – and life after death. It is like a fresh breeze blowing into our lives, waking us up out of the musty darkness we may befinding ourselves in. Suddenly we realize that there is nothing to fear. Death, where is your sting? Grave, where is your victory? The resurrection puts into a new perspective Jesus’ cry on the cross of ‘Why have you forsaken me?’ and all our cries of despair in life. So death is not the end; there is hope, after all. Then how do we live in this light of the resurrection? I think we can let the hope of the resurrection inspire courage in us: courage to be who God created us to be, and to let go of all the things we hold on to here. Material things will pass away but human beings have eternal value. The resurrection sets us free because it means that with Jesus we live not with the threat of doom looming ahead of us but with eternal justice, peace, and joy waiting for us. At Easter we celebrate Jesus coming out of the grave, shining brighter than the sun, and we have part in that same resurrection. And then there will be no more tears and no more suffering, and we won’t even need the sun because God will be the light, and we will be with Him! And we know how much He loves us because He has demonstrated it to us through Jesus’ death and resurrection. Happy Easter!
