Do You Have a Vision for the Lost?

“Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he” Proverbs 29:18

“I have no vision, but I had a vision to become an IAS” echoed the voice of a young woman whom I met recently at a Republic Day function, who has qualified through her civil service exam. The challenges that came in the way of this brave lady who cannot see the world around her with her eyes, could not stop her from moving on. She was clear and focussed with the Vision for her life, and there she stands right in front of us as a ‘Success Story’ winning the hearts of all the school children gathered for the function. Yet another example to prove, “Where there is a will, there is a way”. This made me ponder, as Children of God, as Soldiers for Christ, as people called for preaching the Good News around the World – Do we have a Vision? Helen Keller says “The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision”. We are blessed to sit in front of this text and read this by our own selves, but do we have a Vision for our life as ambassadors of Christ?

What is Our Vision? : The Bible says that without Vision and divine guidance, people perish. Our lives do not have any meaning without these, which lead us to destruction. As those who believe in the Mighty name of Jesus and have experienced His power in our lives, we are to have a vision, and that Great Vision is to keep the whole law. “For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all” (James 2:10).

What are those Laws? : If Jesus is the Judge Most High, all that He advises us is to keep the Laws. We are to follow everything that He has said, and those are the Laws to be followed. Though it is true that it is by Grace that we are saved and not through what we do, as the above verse says “Happy is the one who keeps the Law”. Jesus gives us two great Laws based on which all the Old Testament laws hang: 1) Love the Lord your God with all that you have, and 2) Love your neighbour as yourself. Keeping up these laws are the secret to Happiness (Refer Matt 22:36-40), and it needs to become our Vision.

Outcomes of Having a Vision and Obeying the Law: Simply put, the two Laws that are quoted above are very difficult to follow and we need the grace of God. This would lead us to a more personal communion with God. Moreover, when we start loving our neighbours we would not want them to perish even at the expense of losing our lives (Refer John 3:16). We would be eager to share the Good News and save our loved ones from destruction.

My dear friends in Christ, as we begin this New Month – Shall we define a Vision for our lives as His ambassadors? Shall we start following the Two Great Laws Jesus has given us and spread love, especially when the World is starting to get numb, mercilessly indulging in murders, brutality and crime? Shall we help our loved ones without a vision to be saved from destruction? May God give us His grace to stay focussed, start getting into action, and spread happiness around!
