Don’t Look at the Past

“Remember not the former things nor consider the things of the old, Behold I’m doing a new thing.” Isaiah 43:18

A very straightforward order came from the Angel of The Lord, after the rescue of a lingering lot and his family. The Angel instructed them  not to look back, while they were in the valley but go into the hills as Sodom and Gomorrah were being destroyed. As they were heading towards their selected destination the city of soar, Lot’s wife disobeys the command and turns back. She did exactly the opposite to what the Angel of The Lord said, and the Bible says she became a pillar of salt. As we meditate on this incident, we learn a very important lesson. Sodom and Gomorrah is like our hurting, sinful and painful past. God’s decision to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah is comparable to the decision He makes to completely destroy our sinful past through His son Jesus Christ. He asks us not to look back and move forward to the place ordained for us. But many times we tend to look back and get stuck in the middle as Lot’s wife. We find it hard to move forward. God wants us to move forward when he demolishes our hurting and sinful past. We have to listen to Him so as to move forward. We should not look back as God is destroying it. He says, “Behold I’m doing a new thing.” It’s by trusting this promise, we can move forward and that’s what God expects from us.
