“He rescues me unharmed from the battle waged against me, even though many oppose me” Psalm 55:18
Earlier last month, I had to visit different furniture shops that were in the same stretch of road to choose the best one and suddenly while in the car on the way back I noticed that my mobile phone was missing. The mobile was special since it was gifted to me. I, along with my brother, just went along the same stretch of the road. To our surprise, we found it lying in the road, exactly at the same spot where it could have fallen, untouched. When I shared this incident, everyone claimed it to be the mighty hand of God. That is when I started to reflect on the protection the mighty hand of God offers me, even if a thing of the material world needs to be protected. The battles we face in this competitive world every day of our lives become too complicated to handle at times. Being God’s children we often face the dilemma of reacting to these situations, by our desire to reflect the love of Christ. The battle may even get stronger and threatening to our existence. The verse we are going to meditate upon this month is to encourage us and to strengthen ourselves with the fact that no matter what evil comes our way, we will be rescued unharmed. What a privilege and a blessing it is to have such an assurance. Situations or people who are opposing us cannot win over us, because we are His children and as Romans 8:31 says “If God be for us, who can be against us?” The Bible continuously gives us many examples to follow through our battles. Even the capital punishments are being given to those who trust Him and one such example is that of Daniel’s friends. There are times when the situations demand us to follow the norm of the day, to please men in authority, to long for recognition and to be identified with the crowd to avoid potential threats. This is exactly what happened when King Nebuchadnezzar made his golden statue and commanded the people to worship it and also threatened to put the people in blazing fire if they refused to do so. The three young men who were Daniel’s friends had the courage to refuse and the faith to proclaim the power of God. They eventually came out of the consuming fire unharmed. The King himself said “Look! I see four men walking around in the fire. They aren’t tied up. And the fire hasn’t even harmed them. The fourth man looks like a son of the gods.” Daniel 3:25. My dear friends in Christ, this is the testimony our life needs to offer. Let’s be assured that even though people or situations oppose us, we are safe. If God could keep my phone safe, unstolen and untouched, how much more valuable are we to Him?. We are the Apple of His eye and that is why the Bible says in Isaiah 43:2, “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze”. Let’s start facing the month ahead with the assurance of God’s presence in our lives and be a testimony through the battles we face.
