The perfect sacrifice

Yesterday as I was reading the newspaper, a particular headline caught my attention; it read “Girl’s death saves five lives”, the article said that the parents of the girl donated her organs soon after her death to five other people who needed it and saved their lives, amazing isn’t it? After reading the article I could see a meaning in that girl’s death as it saved five precious lives. I had an easy choice to credit this incident to the evolution of science which made it possible, but I could only see it as the reflection of God’s love in us, what if you have all the technologies in the world to do organ transplantation and if you don’t have the heart to give those organs to someone?

The sacrifice a soldier makes to protect the people of his country, the sacrifice a mother makes to bring forth her child risking her life; it’s all a reflection of God’s love. I felt a strong realization within, that “Sacrifice does bring meaning to death and life”.

It’s not fanaticism to relate the above incidents to God’s love but it’s the truth in its absolute form. God’s love manifested two thousand years ago in the cross of Calvary, He clearly knew that the meaning of death and life can only be found in sacrifice ,so He gave the most perfect sacrifice to give that meaning to each one of our lives. The Bible says in John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that he gave (sacrifice) his only son (Jesus), that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life”.

The Bible says in Isaiah 53:5, “But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, And by His scourging we are healed”. The God mentioned in the Bible alone can give definition to all these sacrifices as it’s the only holy book which demonstrates sacrifice in bringing meaning to life and death. That’s why we find meaning in our sacrifices.

The death of Jesus on the cross brings meaning to our life by offering us forgiveness and remission for our sins so that we don’t have to live in guilt for things we did in the past. It gives grace to live the life on earth amidst pains and troubles, healing to our physical body, mind and soul and brings meaning to our death by giving us the everlasting life as the hope of future for whoever believes in Him and accepts Him.

In this time when world remembers the death of Jesus, want to let everyone know, His sacrifice is not only for a certain group of people who were with Him but for each and everyone in this world. He alone is the Only true offer from God to give us life.

Jesus suffered and died on the cross so that we may escape the danger of everlasting separation from God. He rose from the dead to give us the hope of everlasting life. The Bible says in Romans 10:9, “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” In order to receive everlasting life, we need to believe in Him. Do you believe?
