The Resurrection

Many believers are aware that this day is remembered as The Resurrection Day of Christ and not as some call it as Easter. For some who don’t yet know the difference – The word Easter is synonymous with the Goddess of Ishtar (Goddess of Spring/Fertility) to whom people in old days used to offer painted Eggs and Bunnies. That practice has somehow got into Christian Churches and is being followed out of ignorance. We should not be ignorant of such things since the Bible clearly says “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge” (Hosea 4:6) and Paul says, “Lest Satan should take advantage of us; for we are not ignorant of his devices” (2 Corinthians 2:11).

Many Theologians say that the Resurrection of Christ is the central theme of Christianity. Paul without doubt clarifies it – “And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith. And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins.” (1 Corinthians 15: 14, 17) In this passage Paul emphasized that our faith is futile without Christ’s Resurrection and if not for it we would be still under the grip of Sin. Christ’s sacrifice on the cross washed our sins completely, it is done forever!! But the power to overcome the grip of Sin in our daily walk is only available through Resurrected Christ and His Grace. That is what makes us a new creation. (Refer 2 Corinthians 5:17)

This New thing in our life refers to the Gift of Adoption as Sons and Daughters of God when previously we were alienated and without God (Refer Ephesians 2:12). We once walked according to the course of this world, carrying out the desires of body. “Even when we were dead in trespasses and sins, God made us alive together with Christ and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus” (Ephesians 2: 5-6).

Before the Cross, the Law required us to obey all His commandments. “Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that the Lord your God will set you high above all nations of the earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the Lord your God” (Deuteronomy 28:1). Whereas after the Resurrection, according the New covenant, we are already seated High with Christ and now positionally we are on Favored Ground!! In short we already are positioned to receive His blessings as the Law is completely fulfilled by Christ our Substitute.

A preacher quoted like this “We shouldn’t live our life as though the Cross has not done any change in our Lives”. Christ always empowered people before He sent them away. He showed His Grace to the woman caught in adultery by saying “Go and sin no more”. He promised His disciples that all will reach other side of Galilee before going to sleep in the lower deck of the boat. He prayed for Peter’s faith to remain strong before his denial. He always equips us before he expects anything from us. Similarly He has already empowered us with the Power of His Resurrection for the Great Commission he has called us all for. So, let each of us work according to our calling, awaiting His return, which is the Hope that keeps us pure (Refer 1 John 3:3). Maranatha! Come, Lord Jesus!!
