Year of Hope

No other year, I assume, would have created such expectation and anticipation as 2012. Though the year will be greeted with joy, happiness and celebration, one cannot deny the fear this year has created because of all the predictions, calculations, theories and depictions. It is portrayed by many as the year of destruction that the world has to face.

I recall a quote that I heard long back which was supposed to have uttered by a Major of the Allied forces. Looking at the debris of the destroyed buildings in Germany, an aftermath of the Second World War, he gently said “There is no other hope to this world apart from Jesus Christ.”

Hope is special, it expects even when everything around comes crumbling down. Hope is like a small light in a dark room, like an oasis in the desert, like fire in a cold night, like Jesus in this sinful world!

All along the years humans have faced hopelessness in many forms: Freedom, status, money and power. But nothing would disturb them more than a question mark on the source of their existence. The Bible says in John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son (Jesus Christ), that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life” and in John 3:36, “He that believeth in the Son (Jesus Christ) has everlasting life, and he that believeth not the son (Jesus Christ) shall not see life; but the wrath of God.” It is a clear message, not a message to create fear, but hope. Paul talks about this in Colossians 1:27 “Christ in us is the hope of glory”.

Jesus didn’t come down to this world to save a certain group of people called Christians, and give them hope. He is the hope for every single person in this world. John, one of the apostles of Jesus Christ says in John 1:10-12, “He was in the world and the world was made by Him, and the world knew Him not, He came unto His own, and His own received Him not. But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe in His name.”

Every single person has the right to believe and receive Him to have the hope of everlasting life. This world is not going to come to an end until the thousand years’ reign of Jesus Christ is completed on earth. He will be the judge to decide whether we are going to spend our days in eternal Heaven or hell. Right now, we have the hope in Him through His precious blood that was shed on this earth to cleanse and purify us from our sins, offering grace and mercy.

If we think that our life is going to end with this world and we will cease to exist forever, then that is the biggest mistake we can ever do in our lifetime.

Let this New Year be the year of Hope for us, if our heart is ready to seek Jesus Christ, the true hope Giver. He is ready to give us the hope we need. People may say various things about this world, but this is the promise Jesus left with us, He said” Lo, I’m with you always, even unto the end of the world, Amen”. Matthew 28:20.

Wishing you all a prosperous and hope-filled New Year!
